#FMSpotlight: Law – “Controller” (Listen)

Law truthfully has another banger on her hands. Fresh off the heels of her smash hit, “Over It,” the New Jersey-based songstress is back with another powerfully embedded track titled “Controller.” The Afro-beat instrumental found in her new single also keeps the summer vibes alive. The real ear-catcher, however, is Law’s distinctive contralto register. Moreover, the song’s message also draws listeners in. It’s the kind of PSA every individual should heed to. 

On “Controller,” Law refuses to take a lover’s mess. She’s had it with his controlling ways. So naturally, Law gives him an ultimatum. If he refuses to change, she won’t hesitate to show him the door.

In the first few lines, she sings:

“Mama didn’t raise no puppet and daddy did not raise no timid girl/So I’ma say what’s on my mind.”

and

You better get on your knees and pray to God that I don’t leave/’Cause once I walk out that door ain’t no changing my mind.”

Law makes it known that SHE’s the only one who calls the shots in her life. But, ultimately, his negative behavior will either make or break them. The songstress goes on to question his actions, saying

“I do not need your permission just to go live my life/And I did not ask your opinion so why do I gotta think twice/About what I do, where I go and where I’ve been.”

As the song continues, she opens up about how his narcissistic approach makes her feel. She implies that he makes her feel like a prisoner. 

The song ends with empowering words that symbolically push other women to take no sh*t! One notable line goes, 

“You can’t control me/You’re just the king of misery.”
