#FMSpotlight: Lee Charm- “Alone” (Listen)

The new “Alone” single from Lee Charm is a psychedelic R&B composition. Chromatic scales go together with “leave me alone” vibes and various kinds of autotune.

The song’s subject is the artist being successful and consequentially willing to spend some time alone.

Very basic, as you can tell.

“I want the world to know that I am a dreamer and a fighter who dares to be himself at any means necessary,” Lee Charm also informs us.

It took me a minute to figure out what else to write about this single. Not that there’s something wrong with it; Lee Charm’s product sounds pretty decent and applicable for various parties and playlists.

It’s just that nothing is exciting enough to point out. Lyrics make sense but don’t create an overall picture in the composition. The instrumental’s chromatic scales are psychedelic but still sound basic.

Maybe the artist just was a little late with releasing his single. The web-punk cover and psychedelic instrumental would’ve been refreshing and caused much attention five-seven years ago. The “leave me alone” mood is also a little off-spot after the pandemic and having to be alone for such a while.

Lee Charm “Alone Verdict

The song is not great, though the artist is. Many music videos on YouTube are only proving the point.

Check out “Where Dey At” from 2016. You can see one of the best examples of shooting a music video using the minimum amount of resources. Thanks to the work of the cameraman and editor, an abandoned building, two people, and a car turn into a cinematographic piece of art.

Also, take a look at “Swimming.” Much more on point in terms of modern loneliness. Though Lee Charm is walking down the successful-looking yard and swims in his own pool, one can tell something saddens him. Or maybe lack of something. Or someone.
