Watch: LG (Team Genius) – “YBM”

LG (Team Genius) exposes America for their sneaky racist motives in “YBM.” Over the aggressive rock offering with hip-hop flavor, the femcee brings enlightenment on how the world is dehumanizing POC. Society pushes the notion that Blacks are problematic when in reality, they find ways to vilify them. Regardless of these tricky tactics, the new generation fights back!

Using a gritty vocality, LG (Team Genius) spits,

And they just wanna hang us up in distant trees/While we roll Fanta wraps round smoking leaves.”

To put it better, melanin people encompass a strong power untouched by any other race.

Circling back to the message, she raps

Raise the neighborhoods with no dreams, only fiends/Change the neighborhood with no loans, only cheese.”

By the second verse, the rapstress vocalizes how she’s tried to give Caucasians the benefit of the doubt. But, to no prevail, she witnessed ongoing injustice against Blacks.

I really try to see it from the opposite side/Black man dead, white cop is alive/No crime committed at the time he arrived.”

Then, LG (Team Genius) adds on to her statement about America finding ways to harm Blacks. They’ve even pinned them against each other.

Then they influence what you eatin/Where that fried chicken extra seasoned.”

Next, she tells the dark truth about how America was discovered and the emergence of slavery. She also speaks on the history of Thanksgiving.

Sometime later they brought the slaves in/Raped all of the women in front of chainmen/Stripped them from their true name and tried to rename them/Then told them bout a white man that could save them.”

Given these statements, we get a better understanding of how the nation has blindsided us for eons. In the words of Akay The Blogger:

“It’s [‘YBM’] beautiful, fierce, unapologetic, and skillfully written. It’s the energy of empowerment it exudes that makes the song feel big.”
