#FMSpotlight: Luck – “All The Diamonds” (Listen)

R&B sensation Luck declares to potential admirers that her heart is not their possession in “All The Diamonds.” Luck’s love doesn’t come with a price tag. She vocalizes this message in the refrain when she sings, “All the diamonds in the world can’t buy my love.” The way to her heart is through a deep connection, not materialistic items.

As the song continues, Luck uses a smooth cadence and questions her beau’s motives. Although she’s enjoying their time together, she wonders if it’s genuine. Then, a drum solo clashes in at the minute mark.

Following this, Luck expresses what wins her over. Like the chorus says, the F.O.P. founder isn’t impressed by luxurious goods or wealth. She’s more interested in knowing someone for who they are. Chemistry and vulnerability also play a big part.

She raps, “I like to play it slow/Like it when you take control/Shower me in glitz and gold/That will never reach my soul.”

Toward the end, Luck hints at wanting to know her admirer on a deeper level. She doesn’t want a temporary love. But instead, an everlasting one.

She says, “But we don’t know what tomorrow holds/You bet a dollar when you gamble with your soul.

Luck

Closing out “All The Diamonds,” she pleads with her lover to slow things down. Luck wants to take the time to know who he truly is.

Throughout the song, Luck displays exceptional runs and a solid falsetto-esque range. The calm R&B instrumental garners admiration from jazz and muzak arrangements.
