NBA All-Star weekend brought the big names in basketball to North Carolina for the 68th annual NBA All-star game. All-star weekend isn’t just celebrated by athletes but by the rap game as well. Several artists, including Gucci and DJ Khaled, hosted events and parties after the Celebrity All-Star game and throughout the weekend. The Hip-Hop presence during the game was HEAVY. Rappers were spotted sitting court-side, one such couple being Sawavo (Sweetie and Quavo), who were boo’d up on their all-star date.
Meek Mill & J.Cole’s All-Star Performances
However, the rappers aren’t only there to watch the game, a few of them were scheduled to perform. Meek Mill, favoring his hometown Philadelphia 76ers, provided the opening performance as the basketball stars were introduced to fans. His pre-game performance lit the fuse with a medley featuring his Championships album “Intro”, “Going Bad,” “Uptown Vibes” and “Dreams and Nightmares.” Later, the NBA called on North Carolina native J.Cole to highlight the halftime show, repping 90’s vibes in a Charlotte Hornets windbreaker as he performed a melody of his hits. He came through with a memorable performance, kicking it off with his latest single “Middle Child” before showing love to 21 Savage by jumping into his verse from Savage’s “a lot”. He then transitioned into K.O.D highlight “ATM” before hopping onto some of his nostalgic songs, taking a seat to perform “Love Yourz” followed by the closing track, “No Role Modelz.”
J.Cole Previews New Music
J.Cole not only gave us a fye halftime performance, he also gave his fans a sneak peek. While performing a Dreamville show during NBA All-Star weekend, he previewed two new tracks seemingly off his forthcoming album, Revenge of The Dreamers III. The anticipation of All-Star weekend reached an all-time high and these artists definitely put on for their states. As for the actual game? Let’s just say Team Giannis took a trip on the L-train.
