Atlanta native, Lil Nas X, gained popularity as a famous Twitter user known for his Nicki Minaj fan account. After accumulating fame with his many viral tweets, he had the idea to begin making music. In December of 2018, the twenty-year old uploaded the country-rap song “Old Town Road” on SoundCloud. Thanks to the popular lip-syncing app, TikTok, the song went viral when many used it to participate in the “Yeehaw Challenge”.
Bill Ray Cyrus had much to say about the removal of the song. The country star took to Twitter to voice his concerns saying “Its honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?”. Not long after, Cyrus and Lil Nas collaborated on a remix of the song. Currently, the remix is the number one song in the world.
