Just a week ago Meek Mill was blasted on every blog for allegedly being involved in an altercation. It’s scary to see how easy it is to sell news nowadays… Back to business, Meek Mill’s recent release of YBA (Young Black AMERICA) is proof that the message in the music is way bigger than making a quota. Hip Hop has always been a language of survival. There’s a message in the music but you must be open to listening. This is without a doubt the cause of the recent uproar and division for the fight to keep the Hip Hop language untainted and full of content. If you mumble when you speak to me how will I get the message? What exactly are you really saying?
No matter how catchy the beat is, content is KING! Then in one week Hip Hop is blessed with the release of Jay-Z’s4:44 and Meek Mills YBA which happens to be a sample off Jay-Z’sThe Blueprint“Mama loves me” featuring The Dream. THIS is what we needed! Our world in America is upside down! It was time for a new Message, we needed new instructions! Anybody that can’t see that, feel free to get left behind (we can’t save them all).
So many artists have been fighting to get their message out, from Wale, Big Sean, J. Cole, Joey Badass, Vic Mensa, Chance, and King Kendrick! What an assist, because timing is everything; ask Jay-Z4:44. The video for YBA features a story line of Meek schooling a young black boy that as the video plays out finds himself in multiple mishaps mainly due to circumstance. How often do we see this story? This is our Reality, sad, true and bitter. What can we do about it? Young Black America, did you catch the message, the answer is in the music but are you open to listening? Watch the video for YBA above.
