The Middle Child Syndrome Cured by JCole

Just after putting together one of the most anticipated projects of the year with Hip Hop Elites for Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation recording sessions J Cole hits us with his new single “Middle Child”.  Cole tagging in T-Minus for production for another hit the two previously worked together “Kevin’s Heart.”

What exactly does it mean to be the Middle Child?

“Middle kids bemoan their fate as being ignored and often grow resentful of all the parental attention given to the oldest and the baby of the family, and feel short-shifted. Three kids triangulate sibling relationships, with one child at any given point feeling like the odd man out from the chumminess of the other two”-USA Today

Is Cole the “Middle Child” of Hip Hop? Getting less attention than his brothers in the game, although he can clearly hold his own weight. It appears to be effortless, JCole is able to take the Blueprint from the OG’s and translate it for the Little guys still coming up with tracks like “1985″ and now “Middle Child” where Cole is letting the world know that the Middle Child is never to be slept on!

Everything grows, it’s destined to change
I love you lil’ niggas, I’m glad that you came
I hope that you scrape every dollar you can
I hope you know money won’t erase the pain
To the OGs, I’m thankin’ you now
Was watchin’ you when you was pavin’ the ground
I copied your cadence, I mirrored your style
I studied the greats, I’m the greatest right now
Fuck if you feel me, you ain’t got a choice

Cole speaks on the “sibling rivalry” that he Drake allegedly has had, beyond the blogs Cole was gifted a Rolex around the same time when the industry was trying to put Cole and Champagnepapi against each other. Speculators say this rivalry begin back on December 16′ with the release of  “False Prophets,” on which many believe he taking shots at Drake. Cole goes off about how the industry put him against his friend/brother; but why there can’t be two successful rappers in the game at the same dam time?

That’s my next mission, that’s why I can’t quit
Just like LeBron, get my niggas more chips
Just put the Rollie right back on my wrist
This watch came from Drizzy, he gave me a gift
Back when the rap game was prayin’ I’d diss
They act like two legends cannot coexist
But I’d never beef with a nigga for nothin’
If I smoke a rapper, it’s gon’ be legit
