The Superhero Show for the Culture Canned after 2 Seasons
Harlem’s hero is done after 2 seasons! Netflix is dumping all Disney related titles due to the company starting its own streaming service. Iron Fist was canned earlier this month, but no one watches that. Luke Cage was for the culture. Method Man freestyled on an episode within Season 1 while being interviewed by Sway and Heather B. The Soundtracks on both Seasons were great. All Season 1 episodes were named after a Gang Starr song. Season 2 episodes were named after a Pete Rock & CL Smooth song.
It was a Show of the Times
Luke Cage was created for black people. Black Panther was great showing a flourishing African nation. We can’t visit Wakanda, but we all been to Harlem. I was impressed by the show’s ability to give us a relatable hero with his flaws. Characters seeking their place in the world. Alfre Woodard was fantastic as the villainous Mariah Dillard. She might be the best villain in the MCU. Mahershala Ali was great in Season 1 as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes. Simone Missick and Rosario Dawson were terrific as Misty Knight and Claire Temple.
It wasn’t Perfect, but What is?
So the Season 2 Jamaican accents were terrible. The villain switch from Cottonmouth to Diamondback wasn’t the best move. Giving us Diamondback as an estranged brother was a predictable twist. I would rather Season 1 have Cottonmouth as the primary antagonist. The reason why we are upset is because of the Season 2 ending. Luke Cage abandons Harlem’s hero and becomes Harlem’s king. Season 2 was much darker and gave us a wonderful setup for a phenomenal Season 3. Too bad we will never see it.
