Vic Mensa released his debut album titled The Autobiography on June 28th and although this is Vic’s 1st Studio album the anticipation for the release of the project has been high. Vic Mensa has made his point clear from the time he showed up on the hip hop scene and let it be known that he was here to serve a purpose. Chicago native Vic has expressed how he has seen more than his share of Trama from a young age due to where he was from; inspiring him to create the sound that we hear today on the The Autobiography album.
Its a huge responsibility to take on the role that Vic Mensa has claimed for the community that he comes from. Chicago is one of the most dangerous places to live in this country, all the more reason to take a listen to what Vic has to say. A perspective from someone who is living in the mist of the daily battles gives a greater insight to a massive situation that is often told from the perspective of the news and media. The abuse of power from law enforcement and moments of addiction and depression which are common struggles way too many of us go through; vividly expressed on Heaven on Earth (Reprise)
“The metaphor of the bird is eternal As I stood in the bathroom with a 9 millimeter in my mouth Empty Henny bottle on the couch The mirror in front of me reflected everything I hated in those around me I felt like a hypocrite I wanted to fly away from it all The lies, the betrayal, the rage I felt To turn every page I’d ever written into flames and let it burn”
Inspired by The Autobiography of Malcolm X Vic paints a picture of what life has been like through his eyes. No matter how dark it gets, it’s real.
