Frank Ocean is ready to make his directorial debut. He wrote a screenplay titled “Philly” (as of right now). Filming is supposedly starting this fall in New Mexico. If filming begins in the Fall, the movie should be done by 2023. Right now, Frank Ocean is working with production company 2AM and independent film company A24. A24 is familiar with Frank Ocean as they have used his music in the movie, “Waves”. Trey Edward Shults, director of “Waves”, is a fan of Frank Ocean and needed Frank’s music for his movie.
“I tried to get across how much his music means to me personally, and why his songs are the only songs in the world that make sense in these scenes”. Said Shults in an interview with NME.
Frank is familiar with writing for movies as well. He wrote the foreword for the book “Moonlight”, which ultimately became an Academy Award winning film. However, this is his directorial debut.
Frank Changes Andre 3000 Verse
It’s been six years since Frank Ocean’s “Blonde” album. This star-studded album even saw a verse from Andre 3000, but to his surprise. Frank Ocean and Andre 3000 collaborated to make “Solo (Reprise)” to which 3000 didn’t know the beat would change. The original beat he rapped on was completely different from the beat he heard on the album. He describes how Frank reached out to him for a song.
“So he sent me a beat and we kept back and forth, he was sending me beats, we were listening to music. I picked the beat, and I did this verse to this beat-it was like a Hip Hop kinda beat, a completely different track.” Said Andre 3000 in a recently surfaced interview.
Years later, after Andre 3000 went to support Frank Ocean on his “Boys Don’t Cry” magazine, he heard the album on his way home. To his surprise he was on it and it was an even greater surprise when he heard the beat.
“He didn’t tell us that it was coming out. I never heard it until it was on the album, and it was completely different. It was the genius of Frank-he put it on piano alone”.
