Have you taken some time to hear the DOPE soundtrack?
If not then I suggest you get on
YouTube, put those headphones on and take a quick listen. The soundtrack, which includes a few original songs produced by Pharrell along with some classic artists who include Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest and Nas came out on the music shelves this past
Tuesday.
The coming-of-age movie is based on Malcolm – a high school smart guy from Inglewood, California with dreams of going to Harvard. Obsessed with the ‘90s hip-hop feel and culture – we get a feel of what Malcolm’s life is like as he works on trying to get into the prestigious university while living in an area known for its dangers.
1.       Public Enemy – “Rebel Without a Pause”
2.       A Tribe Called Quest – “Scenario”
3.       Digital Underground – “The Humpty Dance”
4.       Gil Scott-Heron – “Home is where the Hatred is”
5.       Awreeoh – “Don’t Get Deleted”
With 15 songs on the soundtrack, I’m sure you’ll find yourself pressing repeat eventually. Best believe, the ‘90’s hip-hop culture makes the soundtrack!
The movie, with Pharrell Williams as its executive producer, is set to come out in theaters on June 19.
