Sacha Jenkins’, ‘Fresh Dressed’ documentary explores the history and inner-workings of hip-hop fashion. As hip-hop is indefinitely becoming the mainstream culture, its no wonder someone would want to educate us on the birth and progression of hip-hop fashion.
Hip-hop style’s presence in society is notable and iconic. Outfits have always been significant in hip-hop culture. We may have no funds in the bank, but our fit is fresh. There is emphasis put on personal style and a fearlessness to do you and stand out.
Fresh Dressed takes us back to Cross Colours, and Karl Kani, as it narrates the role of fashion in hip-hop, and how hip-hop style developed.
The documentary features commentary from some of hip-hop’s known style stars, Kanye West, Puffy, Pharrell, Kid n Play, as well as other well known names in fashion, Givenchy designer, Ricardo Tisci, and Andre’ Leon Talley.
Out on June 26th, Fresh Dressed is playing now in select theaters. It’s also available to stream online via Vimeo.
