After five months of politicking in the Senate, Loretta Lynch was finally sworn in as the new U.S. attorney general on Monday. President Barack Obama chose Lynch to replace Attorney General Eric Holder back in November and in February her nomination cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee. According to CNN, the long delay for a vote on the Senate Floor was due to Republicans refusing to “bring up her nomination up for a vote until Democrats cut a deal on abortion language in an unrelated bill.”

The following day after the bill was passed she was confirmed 56-43 with 10 Republicans voting for her. Lynch has proved her qualifications and earned a great reputation as a two time U.S attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Lynch is the first African-American woman to serve as a U.S. attorney general.
