Planning a wedding is stressful and tiring. I know because my friend is planning a wedding and sitting with her to help is hard enough. So I can only imagine how she feels, along with all the other brides that are planning their weddings right now. However assisting in wedding planning does have its perks. I get to look at dresses and picture me in them while getting my creative juices flowing. I also have the honor of being one of her bridesmaids, so that’s a plus. We are now a month into planning and already I have learned so much about wedding planning and the role of a bridesmaid.
Here’s what I learned:
- Bridesmaids should help as much as they can, however they have every right to ignore your phone calls when you turn into a bridezilla.
- Create a budget for yourself (the bride), Excel has a budget sheet template that you can just enter prices into.
- The bride should set a date early, because you want to know the amount of time you have to plan out your wedding. We need as much time as possible. Since all women dream of the perfect wedding, we try our hardest to make that happen.
- After setting your date make a guest list so that you can begin looking up venues. From watching my friend search for venues, I think this part is the most stressful. SO get it done ASAP!
- After you’ve found your venue, book an appointment to actually see the place to make sure you actually like it and the photos match reality.
- Now it’s time to focus on your dress which is also stressful. It’s good to get your dress 6-9 months before the actual wedding date. This is because you have to consider showing it to your girls and getting the dress fitted.
- Once you find your dress find the bridesmaids dresses. I told my friend, once she finds the dress she wants us to wear to let me know so that I can buy it.
- Cake! What’s a wedding without cake? Go cake testing and look up ideas for how you would like the cake to look.
- Invites are important of course, and you have to have the perfect invitation for the perfect wedding.
- Lastly, bridal registry. I know I would want people to buy me gifts, so head to the nearest mall with your hubby to scan some items.
There are of course other things a bride shouldn’t forget, like catering, decorations, hair and makeup, shoes, and the list goes on. But these are the top ten essentials for planning a wedding and it’s best to get these out the way first.
