Does chivalry still exist or has it been tossed out the window by all men everywhere? There was a time when women walked on the inside of the street or men held the door open and let women walk first. It’s so rare to find a man who actually practices chivalry with all women, not just his girlfriend and mom. What has destroyed the courteousness of men? Perhaps it was women, as unbelievable as that sounds. The species that fancies chivalry are the ones who killed it. I believe that this is true, and I believe that men feel the same.
Nowadays, women are so quick to reject chivalry. We act snobbish and want to feel independent. We automatically think that when a man comes up to us and asks if we need help, they just want to talk to us. We think that every time a man approaches us it’s because they would like to engage in some sort of conversation. They only want to stop to talk to us to try and get our number. But is it our fault that we have this preconceived notion that all men want to do is flirt? I would say that almost 70 percent of the time that is exactly what men have in mind.
Women empowerment is about supporting one another, knowing that women can go the distance. Women can deserve the same rights as men and that we too are capable of being independent. Oftentimes women want to feel so independent that they don’t want to rely on men for ANYTHING. I noticed that even when women absolutely need some type of help they are resilient to ask for it, like when carrying a baby stroller down the stairs. It’s okay to let a man help you if you need help. So many times I have heard a woman say “I’m fine, I got it.” Each time this is said, men want to do less for us. Why even bother asking if a woman needs help is all she’s going to say is “No”?
Chivalry has become much like the Latin language, something that was not being used so it eventually died. It’s not that men don’t want to be gentlemen, it’s because women scoff at the men who actually practice chivalry. Women look too deep into the reasons why men perform these chivalrous actions. Women need to realize that in order for chivalry to return we need to be willing to accept the helping hand of man. We complain about how we want a nice guy, but when that nice guy comes along we reject him! Women are afraid of the nice guys because we can’t believe that they actually exist. But they do, so let them practice their courteousness on you.
