Drake has spoken out for the first time since the Astroworld tragedy. He’s been pretty quiet since Friday night’s incident, but has now broken his silence. The rapper took to Instagram to express his grief over those who lost their lives.
“I spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy. I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as brief, but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who have lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way that I can. May God be with you all.”
What is the lawsuit against Drake?
Drake, along with Travis Scott and Live Nation are being sued by victims of the Astroworld tragedy. Although Travis Scott and Live Nation were the organizers of the event, Drake was a guest performer. The rapper is accused of inciting the crowd that concertgoers say ignited the surge. One of the victims by the name of Kristian Parade, claims that Drake’s actions caused him to be severely injured, and also contributing to the deaths of 8 concertgoers. Parade, who is seeking over $1M to cover medical expenses says that Drake, who performed alongside of Travis Scott at the time of the deadly surge, continued to perform even after the crowd became out of control.
What We Know About The Victims
The eight victims who lost their lives, were between the ages of 14 and 27. Thousands of people were caught up in the crush. Hundreds suffered injuries. 25 of those people were transported to the hospital, and 13 remain hospitalized. Among those hospitalized are 5 minors. A 9 year old is currently in an induced coma. The child suffered brain trauma after falling from his father’s shoulders and being trampled during the crowd surge. Our hearts go out to all of the victims.
