Current reports show that Ice Cube and Warner Brothers are at odds over creative rights to ‘Last Friday’

Cube is reportedly incensed over the slow progress on the film Last Friday. Apparently, Ice feels as if the Production company is dragging its feet. Ice wants the creative rights to get the ball rolling. But Cube is not merely asking for the rights to the Friday franchise. O’Shea is also requesting the rights to All About the Benjamins and Player’s Club, a source notes. But the studio is refusing. Rumor has it maybe Ice is asking for too much, but who knows. What we know is that both are currently in a power struggle over film rights.

Ice Cube is a well-known name in hip-hop.

Ice Cube came into the industry as a member of hip-hop trailblazers N.W.A., the originators of gangster rap. Their rise to fame was cemented by their album Straight Outta Compton. And they remained a household name until their dissolution in 1989. After the split, Cube ventured out on his own. It was 1992 when Ice made his screen debut in Boyz n the Hood, a Singleton classic. From that point on, Cube fell in love with film. Ice went on to star in many films. Friday became Cubes namesake. When one thought of Friday, they thought of Cube. Friday was an unexpected hit. On the heels of the original, two other segments were to follow; Next Friday and Friday After Next. Fan’s had not gotten quite enough.

For quite a time, there were rumors of one more sequel to come in the Friday franchise.

According to the press, Ice originally wanted Last Friday to be released in 2020. The release would have coincided with the 25th anniversary of the original’s release. As you know, a new installment has yet to materialize.

Who can blame Cube for wanting to get back to the business at hand?

No one is getting any younger. In fact, since the last installment, the franchise has lost two of its amazing actors, Tommy Lister Jr. and John Witherspoon. But, right now, there is no give in either direction.

Here is hoping that they come to a quick and amicable resolution before Last Friday actually becomes the last decade.
