The first-ever Juice WRLD Day takes place on December 9th. The event will take place in Chicago. Although the young rapper is no longer with us, his memory lives on in the releases of his posthumous albums. Juice also lives in the memory of Live Free 999, an organization dedicated to helping those suffering from addiction and other mental health issues.

The Rise and Fall of a Young Star

The rapper rapidly rose to fame in 2018 and lost his life just as quickly. Juice’s debut album Goodbye and Good Riddance, hit Platinum almost instantly in 2018. The follow-up, Death Race for Love, also eventually checked in at number one on Billboard 200.

Juice WRLD lost his life to a drug overdose in December 2019. According to his mother, he developed a drug problem early in his life and struggled with addiction for years.

Along with his battles with anxiety and depression, this struggle is also at the forefront of Juice’s music. It was neither of those mental health issues that led to his death. Reportedly, Juice learned that police were going to search his private airplane for drugs. In an attempt to prevent its discovery, he swallowed Percocet. He died of a seizure while police were busy seizing the rest of the drugs on his plane.

Shortly after her son’s death, Carmella Wallace formed Live Free 999. She named the organization after a jacket Juice bought at a thrift store. He also painted “Live Free” on the clothing. The mission of Live Free 999 is to aid those suffering from addiction and mental health issues.

Juice’s music provided comfort. Organizers created Juice WRLD Day in honor of Juice’s memory and also spread awareness of the illnesses he suffered.

Juice WRLD Day will also present attendees with a first listen of Juice’s second posthumous album, Fighting Demons. Juice WRLD Twitter also announced an exclusive preview of the documentary highlighting Juice’s life, titled “Juice WRLD: Into The Abyss.”
