Ashanti is currently re-recording her debut album, and Irv Gotti seems to have a problem with it. The masters from Ashanti’s original albums do not belong to her. That’s why she’s now in the process of remaking her classics, for which she will this time own all the intellectual rights. The singer also wants to teach her listeners the ways the music business works.

Ashanti shared her music business experiences, seeing Nelly for the first time in 6 years, and many more during the interview with Angie Martinez.

Irv Gotti’s Response

After watching the Martinez’s interview, Irv Gotti, whose Murda Inc. label Ashanti’s was signed under, left his commentary on the Martinez show’s Instagram.

“@angiemartinez just for super clarity, I own all those great Ashanti Albums Angie,”  Gotti typed on Instagram. “I own the masters and I produced all those great Ashanti Albums. So I also own a good portion of the Publishing. What she is trying to do is re record all those great records and put them out on her label. She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to fuck me out of my Masters. And make people decide which album to listen too or stream. Hoping her loyal fans will choose her version. But hey, I stand on the magic that was created. And I wanna see her duplicate that magic. It’s fucked up really. But such is life.”
In response, Ashanti’s fans flooded Gotti’s feed. They claimed to delete the old album versions and stick to what Ashanti will record this time.

Ashanti’s Newcoming

Ashanti has recently been on the rise. On top of re-recording the debut album, the Princess of R&B revealed an announcement of the movie role in ‘Honey Girls!’ To add to her list of accomplishments, she will also receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
