Watch: Jake James – “Celebration (feat. Stacy Barthe)”

New York native Jake James has teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Stacy Barthe to release an uplifting track for the dream chasers titled “Celebration.” The song also serves as an anthem for those who’ve received their diplomas.

Over the lo-fi, boom-bap offering, the inspirational emcee gives himself props for graduating. Afterward, he expresses how we share some common ground. It’s moreso focusing on the big goal than the profession.

In a laid-back cadence, he spits

Congratulations, I made it to my graduation/That’s a testament to hard work and dedication/We all working towards the same goal, collaboration/And with that, nothing impossible we bound to make it.

Following this line, Jake James speaks on his upbringing. Moreover, he details how he worked hard without a leader or support system. Though many factors could’ve stunted his progress, he fought against the odds.

Penny in my pocket and a dream when I was six/And biggie told me sky’s the limit all it took was motivation.”

Elsewhere, he leads the song off with an array of gems for those who are losing hope to keep working.

He raps, “It ain’t about who got the fastest car or the biggest house/Cause wealth is in your state of mind, not your bank account/Just be yourself and never let nobody count you out.”

Secondly, Jake James says

If you got a dream, then give it everything you’ve got/One day when you look, you gon’ be happy you did.”

Stacy Barthe not only expresses her opinion on the younger generation but urges everyone to lay down the foundations for them to have strength, knowledge, and a positive outlook on life.

Using a passionate register, she delivers

“I believe our children are the future/Teach them while their lifetime leads the way/Show them all the beauty they possess inside.”

The music video finds Jake James penning lyrics while donning a cap and gown. He also dresses in different suits, which symbolize various occupations.

About Jake James via Blazon Magazine:

Jake James started his career as a recording artist at the young age of 15, inspired by the Golden Era of hip hop artists such as Jay Z and Notorious BIG.

“He grew up as a kid living upstate. Moreso, he went from negatives to positive. Now, he’s celebrating every day. No more public housing.”

Once he got to New York, he recorded and released his debut mixtape – ‘Conflict Theory.’ The release allowed him to build a huge fanbase. He was then able to go on a nine-city tour nationwide, opening for artists such as Dave East, Moneybagg Yo, and Uncle Murda.
