After decades, Janet Jackson finally addressed a long-standing rumor.
For years, speculation regarding Janet and a child she kept secret from the world permeated the media. In a simple statement, Ms. Jackson cleared up decades of rumor,
“I could never keep a child away from James,”
The bottom line is there was no hidden child. That is as clear as one can get.
However, that is not all which can be gleaned from the icons statement. Janet Jackson’s words speak for themselves, making it blatantly apparent that Jackson had an endearing love for James Debarge. Debarge battled with addiction, and she could not help him in the manner Debarge needed or Jackson wanted. In Janet’s words,
“I knew that he needed help. But I wasn’t the help that he needed.”
So that closed a chapter for the pop Queen.
When did this all start?
In the ’80s, Janet was forging her career in the entertainment industry. Fresh off the “Good Times” set, she branched out, taking on more roles. In 1984, the young budding icon married her first love, James DeBarge. Unfortunately, the rising pop star’s marriage did not last long. However, Janet went on to conquer the music industry by storm.
Why the rumors?
According to a recent statement, Janet believed the stories arose because of her weight gain.
“A lot of the kids thought I was pregnant, ’cause I had gained weight, and I had started taking birth control pills.”
However, Janet assured the public she was not pregnant. It was not out of the ordinary to gain weight while on birth control pills… That is a clear and solid explanation.
Janet’s Time to Tell Her Story
As much as possible, Janet closed herself from the world. As a result, very little was confirmed about Janet’s personal affairs. Janet didn’t need to continue responding. She had already spoken her truth several times. Still, after everything, the rumors kept coming. And she held to her truth, firmly denying every accusation. These include statements from the Debarge family. Honestly, her decision to maintain strength in the face of pressure is astonishing and praiseworthy.
Why is Janet Opening Up Now?
There is a time for everything. This season is Janet’s season. Clearing the rumors is not her focus; instead, telling the world the story of her life. In an upcoming biofilm, she reveals the blueprint of everything: her artistry, career, life, and love. So, tomorrow January 28th, fans will get a more intimate peek into the “Control” performers’ life. The bio sketch will be a two-part program airing on Lifetime and A&E networks.
