Jay Z allegedly hired a private investigator to spy on former CEO of Parlux, Donald Loftus. Jay was sued by fragrance brand Parlux for a breach of contract in 2016. The lawsuit came from Parlux on account of Jay allegedly backing out on the deal they made in 2012. Loftus claimed he did not appear in court in person for fear of getting COVID-19, but the investigator found that he is living his life “like it is 2019.”
Jay Z is currently dealing with plenty of lawsuits. He was supposed to push his perfume line, the Gold Jay Z Fragrance, but he did not. In addition to that, Jay was also supposed to do a promotional appearance at Macy’s, which he also failed to do. He rejected a proposal for a $20,000 perfume bottle with an 18-karat gold cap and kept the prototype. Parlux is suing Jay Z for $18 million for loss of revenue. Jay Z is also countersuing for $2.7 million that he claims he is still owed by the company.
The trial was supposed to start this week, but Loftus submitted two doctor’s letters requesting to answer questions via a video link.
According to Rolling Stone, Jay Z’s legal team hired an ex-NYPD officer to investigate the daily comings-and-goings of Loftus. In an affidavit filed on October 15, the investigator showed photos of Loftus boarding MTA buses, walking in Manhattan without a mask, standing in a crowd at the Pulaski Day Parade, and shopping in an Upper East Side grocery store. Loftus also “frequently” dined at a neighborhood restaurant and wasn’t opposed to eating indoors. According to one employee’s account included in the affidavit, anyway.
Loftus has not made any comments yet.
