Jay-Z has officially entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on October 30.  During his speech, he thanked Dame Dash, with whom he is currently in another legal battle.

Jay-Z’s debut album, Reasonable Doubt, turned 25-years-old this year, thus making him eligible for the distinction. Barack Obama and an all-star cast of celebrities that included John Legend, Beyoncé, Blue, Diddy, Halle Berry, Regina King, Chris Rock, and still more congratulated Jay-Z in a video on Saturday night inside the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.

Jay-Z and Damon Dash have a complicated history. They, alongside Kareem “Biggs” Burke, created the Roc-A-Fella Records Label.  However, in June, JAY-Z and Roc-A-Fella’s attorney Alex Spiro filed a lawsuit against co-owner Dash. They said that he attempted to auction off Jay-Z’s debut as an NFT without permission. Dash, however, refutes this claim. He says that he was only trying to sell his own stake in the company. He did not realize that the company itself was the one with the copyright for the album. Despite this rocky history, Jay-Z still made time to thank Dame during his acceptance speech.

“Shout out to Dame, I know we don’t see eye to eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you and I thank you for that. Shout out to Biggs. He was one of the most honorable people I’ve ever met and we created something that will probably never be duplicated. I appreciate you guys. Thank you for our journey. Thank you. Thank you for your contribution to this journey.” You can watch Jay-Z’s full speech below.
