‘The Harder They Fall’, a modern western, shines under director Jeymes Samuel and producer Shawn Jay-Z Carter.
The film was released on Netflix on November 3rd, following its release in select theatres to rave reviews. And it isn’t losing momentum with a 6.6/10 rating on IMDB.
Jeymes Samuel and the production team hold no reserves as they turn a hard bloody lens toward the wild, wild west… And not only do they deliver a phenomenal story, but they shatter historical misconceptions in the process.
‘The Harder They Fall’ Pays Tribute
‘The Harder They Fall’ does not fail to pay its due. The character’s depictions are drawn from historical figures. And astoundingly, the staggering portrayals of Nat Love, Bass Reeves, Rufus Buck, and Cherokee Bill are beyond noteworthy.
Award-winning cast of Idris Elba, Regina King, Johnathan Majors, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Standfield, Zazie Beets, Danielle Deadwyler, Deon Cole, and Edi Gathegi deliver an immersive experience. In fact, the story and the cast blend effortlessly.
But the star is the plot. It shines a spotlight on the diverse nature, excellence, and the significance of Black people and their place in history. And, as a show of honor and respect for history in the making, Jeymes does not hesitate to pay homage to the late Chadwick Boseman.
Theatrical Support
The entire film is a masterpiece, including the score’s hip-hop undertones that also serve as an anchor of support for the storyline. As variety.com also notes,
“The Harder They Fall” soundtrack makes up for all the Jay-Z we’ve been missing by allowing his voice, literally and figuratively, to flow freely across the expanse of its 15 tracks.”
And even more important than the underlying support is the message. And Samuel delivers his message with an unparalleled flair and artistry.
