Jussie Smollett has recently received a sentence of 150 days for his alleged part in an incident dating to 2019. However, today Smollett’s legal team is appealing for an emergency release.
The Source Of Jussie Smollett Troubles
In 2019 Jussie Smollett made breaking news for an assault on his persons. At the time, Smolett had a recurring role as one of the core actors in Empire. So, it wasn’t long before news of Smollett’s attack gained massive traction. However, shortly after, things took a sharp turn. The media went wild with new developments alleging Smollett was suspected of staging his attack. Amid the shock, people quickly chose sides. The law wanted recourse.
The Trial Of Jussie Smollett
The former star of “Empire” appeared in court in December of 2021, wherein he was sentenced. Later that day, prosecutor Webb went on record,
Not only did Mr. Smollett lie to the police and wreak havoc here in this city for weeks on end for no reason whatsoever, but then he compounded the problem by lying under oath to a jury,
Even so, Smollett and his defense maintained Jussie’s innocence resting their case on the other gentlemen involved.
“The defense vehemently maintained Smollett was the victim of a real hate crime,” a source reports. “[He] called the brothers “sophisticated liars and criminals,” who later offered to recant their story and “tell the truth” in exchange for $2 million.”
So, the jury was left to draw their judgments with not much evidence, a source indicates.
“In the absence of smoking-gun evidence, the trial came down to whose story was more believable, Smollett’s, or Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo’s — and in the end, the brothers won.”
Time to Serve
Now that Smollett is serving his sentence, an issue has arisen, prompting his legal team to appeal for an emergency release. According to reports, Smollett has been the recipient of violent threats. One of the threats was intercepted by Smollett’s sibling, and its context is alarming.
“I hope what they do to that guy in jail — here’s what they’re going to do, right. They’re going to take a broom handle and take that little [expletive], shove it in there, and he’s gonna go, ‘[shrieking sound],'” a man’s voice reportedly said in the call.
This is only one example.
Why Release?
Notably, Smollett’s defense team believes in other measures. The following include solitary, protective custody, or psyche ward assignment, which will greatly detriment Jussie’s mental health.
The legal team is not the only one appealing; Jussie’s brother also makes a strong appeal to the public. He wants the public to continue to push until the system acts. So now the defense team, Jussie, and his family are awaiting review. So we must wait to see the ruling.
