Kanye West plans to run for President.

On Saturday, Kanye West tweeted his plans to run for the presidency. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and, building our future. I am running for president of the United States.” – Kanye West via Twitter

Ye has had a history of partnering his projects with politics and political sound-bites. After the announcement, social media exploded in support of the musical genius. One particular important supporter for the West presidency is Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

It doesn’t seem like Ye has an actual interest in running rather than just wanting to be in the headlines with music to promote. He has already missed the deadline to run as an independent. With the election months away, he still has to register with the Federal Election Commission. On top of being a few months away from the election, his team will have to put together a campaign strategy and get enough support and signatures to be put on the ballot in November.

Kanye first stated he would run for president in 2015 at the VMA’s. In recent years he’s been rubbing shoulders with the Trump administration. He’s also been seen wearing the modern-day swastika, the red “MAGA” hat. But with his open support for Trump, West donated 2 million dollars to Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor. So maybe Kanye was playing the role of “The Spook Who Sat By The Door?” A black-man who took backlash from his community for being accepting of white supremacy, but later used the knowledge and power he gained against them for the betterment of his people. It should be noted, you never know what you’re going to get when it comes to Kanye so let’s have faith for the greater good

Real Talk

Maybe this announcement is just another way for Kanye to be in the news with music and projects to promote? Regardless if it is or not, we as Black Americans cannot and should not support. With Ye jumping into the race he’ll divide the minority vote because of his popularity and Trump will have the advantage.
America doesn’t need another “celebrity and chief,” we need an actual leader who cares about the betterment of the people and the nation. Black America wake up, this is the most important election of our generation.
