Kanye West Releases Surprise Christmas EP (Listen)

On Christmas Day, Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir released a five-track gospel EP entitled Emmanuel. The surprise release marks the choir’s second project following 2019’s monstrous Jesus Is Born LP. West executive produced and composed the project, which comes exactly one year after the Sunday Service Choir’s debut release.

The press release for the Emmanuel stated that it was about the “celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ” and “introduces a composition of a new sound, inspired by ancient and Latin music.” In recent years, West has famously come forward as a born-again Christian and has released almost exclusively gospel-tinged music since 2019’s Jesus Is King.
