Kayland, a Jamaican and Haitian songstress from South Florida, aims to pass love forward with every note she hits. As Kayland crosses between an enthralling and passionate register, she speaks on many subjects that resonate with listeners nationwide. At the same token, Kayland makes sure to lead her lyrics with transparency.
“I hope people get a better comprehension of me and understand that they aren’t alone,” she adds. “One of the main things I’ve realized in life is how good it is to feel like others understand you.”
Kayland’s pseudonym is her actual name, which she received from her father, Wayland. For the majority of her life, she’s been singing. Growing up, she was involved with activities like theater and talent shows. But, once Kayland enrolled in college, she decided to take time for herself. As time passed, the singer thought about her aspirations, and that’s when she concluded that singing was it. Kayland has been singing currently for two and a half years.
Kayland penned her newest jam, “Match Made” for another artist in South Florida, but the singer’s team thought it was too R&B-like. Because of this, Kayland was able to take the song as her own. Once she added some pizazz to it, Kayland decided to record “Match Made” and instantly fell in love.
“[On ‘Match Made’] I speak about my ideal partner,” she continues. “Someone I feel comfortable with.” Her favorite line on the song goes, “And I never met someone so right, that’s why you’re mine.”
Before hopping in the booth, Kayland likes to drink water and tea. She also meditates on the feeling that the song presents.
“Match Made” is an intimate R&B serenade-like offering that sees Kayland wearing her heart on her sleeve. In hindsight, Kayland expresses her devotion towards a beau who treats her with the utmost respect.
“Man, all I really need is you now/Way you care for me should be a crime,” she delivers.
As the song continues, Kayland unveils that they’re all she needs. The songstress wants to explore what life has to offer with them by her side. She admits, “we’re a match made.”
Deeper into “Match Made,” Kayland questions her lover’s disappearance,
“Where did you go? Did I smoke you away? Did I run you away?” she sings.
But, this doesn’t stop her from being open about her feelings. Before the song ends, Kayland admits that she’s never met someone so right, along with, “just know you’re mine.” Vocally, Kayland carries a soothing range that meshes well with the song’s 90s-inspired elements.
In more Kayland news, she’s expected to drop a project on October 30th, 2020.
