King Von has music videos lined up for release even after death in 2020. His latest video for “Too Real” premiered on YouTube on Mar 7, showing the rapper brandishing a flamethrower. In the video, he also shows off an array of blindingly expensive jewelry. The video comes after a long line of rap albums and songs foreshadowing rappers’ deaths.
The song allegedly references the beef between NBA Youngboy and Von’s Only the Family crew members. This is unfortunate timing. The video came out YoungBoy dissed both Von and Lil Durk in a recent track. To add to the fire, both YoungBoy’s and Von’s albums dropped the same day. However, there was a victory for Von, and the O.T.F. gang as King’s Von’s album sold more than twice as many copies as YoungBoy’s album “Better Than You.”
Who Was King Von?
King Von came up on the Chicago rap scene back in the late 2010s. The rapper signed to Lil Durk’s Only The Family record label in 2018. He then released the single, “Crazy,” later that year. In 2019, his mixtape “Grandson Vol. 1” debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard 200.
A Tragic Beginning And End
Despite his growing popularity, misfortune plagued Von’s life. Someone shot and killed his father when he was only 11 years old. Von talked about his dad’s death in his song “Exposing Me.”
15 years later, on Nov 6, 2020, King Von was shot after an altercation with fellow rapper Quando Rondo associates. The suspect, 22-year-old Timothy Leeks, was arrested on felony murder charges after the incident.
Von died on his way to the hospital. He also left behind three children and an on-and-off girlfriend, rapper Asian Doll.
Von’s discography includes two studio albums, two mixtapes, and nearly 20 singles. There is a mural of his likeness in Parkway Gardens, Chicago.
