“Girls in NY”
“Girls in NY” is a new single by KJ Dillard. The dance-pop song honors the women living in New York City.
“New York is a mecca of fashion,” KJ explained. “I think a lot of inspiration comes from New York. You have girls from all walks of life that live in New York, from all over the world. So I wanted to make an anthem for girls who live in New York and girls in general.”
KJ’s Inspirations
KJ Dillard’s main musical inspirations are A$AP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, and Pharrell. At the same time, skateboarding was also a big musical and overall influence in the artist’s life. According to the artist, “skateboarding is what led [him] to everything.”
“I started skateboarding when I was 12 years old,” KJ said. “Obviously, as skateboarders, we use music in our skate videos. Watching skateboarding videos, I was introduced to all types of music. When I went to skateboarding events, I heard different genres. And that just caught my ear from such a young age. From there, I started looking up different artists and kind of created my own inspiration board for what I listen to now.”
KJ & Kenneth Cole
KJ Dillard is also heavily involved in the fashion world. He’s currently working with Kenneth Cole.
“Kenneth is a legend,” the artist explained. “They gave me an opportunity to not only be an ambassador, but to have creative freedom and collaborate with them on a piece of clothing, which was super cool.”
