The recent failure of a drug test has landed Kodak Black in hot water. Kodak Black was one of the over 70 individuals whose sentence was commuted by President Trump before he left office. According to the U.S Sun, without the presidential pardon, Kodak Black would not have been eligible for release until 2022. But, luckily for Black, in January 2021, he found himself a free man. Yet, nine months after his release, the “Easter in Miami” artist has again found himself in trouble.

Kodak Black’s original sentence

Kodak received a charge in 2019 for deliberately misrepresenting himself and his criminal history when attempting to secure a firearm. According to Complex, “He [Black] pled guilty to two counts of making a false and fictitious written statement in connection with the acquisition and attempted acquisition of a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer.” But although the charge had a stiffer penalty, Black was given the mandatory minimum of 46 months with supervised release to follow.

Bad habits die hard.

Of course, after the pardon, Kodak was not free and clear to do what he wanted to do. There were conditions to Kodak’s supervised release. But according to recent reports, Kodak has been found guilty of violating one of those conditions. TMZ reports that Kodak failed a drug test which put him in violation. And when Black was found in violation, a court hearing was held. And at that hearing, Kodak was given an order to attend treatment. As TMZ reports, “The judge ordered Kodak to complete a 90-day stint in a residential program due to the violation.

Can anyone say second chance?

It’s not every day that an individual gets a second chance. And it’s rare to receive a third. But reports indicate that Kodak is currently undergoing treatment as ordered. So, let’s hope he gets all the help he needs because, frankly, the repercussions could have been worse. For now, we will just have to see if Black completes the program and can stay out of trouble.
