Selah Marley, daughter of Lauryn Hill, takes to Instagram to defend the “White Lives Matter” Shirt that both she and Kanye West wore to Kanye West’s fashion show.
White Lives Matter is a movement started in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, and has been labeled as a racist and white supremacy group.
The most baffling part of Kanye’s shirt design is actually the front, which shows Pope John Paul II and a Spanish phrase that translates to “We’ll follow your example”. There are multiple ways to interpret this. This could be in reference to how open the Pope was to other religions, being the first pope to enter a synagogue since the times of Jesus. It could also be a reference to all of the apologies that he made for the church. It is unclear what the intention of this inclusion is. This could even be some sort of strange play to get Kim Kardashian back.
On October 3, West held a surprise fashion show, Yeezy Season 9, in Paris. Marley appeared as a model in the show, wearing the controversial t-shirt. People on social media criticized her for this, pointing out how both her mother and grandfather Bob Marley were political activists.

However, Marley was not willing to back down. She went to Instagram to stand up for the shirt and push back against those that were trying to change her stance. She does this by calling everyone sheeple and telling them to wait until she explains herself.
Later, Marley posts a screenshot of her attempting to text West. She texted him to provide clarity on the design. She believes it was done with pure intentions to attempt to heal the community. In the post, she asks Ye to text her back. Ye reposted it and Marley responded with “it’s happening”.
The only explanation that has been received is West calling BLM a scam. He believes so based on the various scandals that has happened over the years within the organization.
