Lebron James Helps Convicted Felons Retain Voting Qualifications

Basketball king and social icon, Lebron James, has become well known for his active philanthropy and activism. From his Black Lives Matter work ,on and off the court, to his groundbreaking ‘I Promise’ school for at risk students, Lebron is rapidly becoming an activist icon.

As the massively important November 3rd election approaches James has turned his sights on aiding with voter access and political freedom. He has taken to twitter to encourage voter participation while also focusing on the voter suppression ingrained in the nation towards people of color.

For years he has brought light to different forms of voter suppression. Just recently he wore a sweatshirt saying “Change isn’t made from watching from the sidelines” which is part of his new ‘More Than A Vote’ fundraising collection. While encouraging voters across the nation to become active, he encourages overly privileged celebrities to use their platform and wealth for good. Because, as is coming to light as of late, voter activism is far more than just registering and encouraging people to vote. Voting aid, in an all encompassing way, must now include finding ways that keep citizens from voting and showing them or helping them.

Lebron James’s voting rights nonprofit organization ‘More than A Vote’ has pledged to help convicted felons overcome the voting restrictions in Florida by paying the fees required of them for the voting right. His group has donated 100,000 to ‘Florida Rights Restoration Coalition’ in order to do so. They were the same group that helped rebuild felon voter rights with a bill in 2018.

While the new step of  ‘payment to voter’ is still another blockade in equal voter rights, James is working on helping the obstacle not turn away more voters than it currently is.

The US is far from a voter system that is all inclusive and fair for all, but steps are being made in that direction, finally.
