Chicago’s leading drill artist Lil Durk first announced his 7th studio album 7220 at the top of the month (Feb. 7). The set date of February 22nd noticeably matched up with Kanye West’s upcoming project Donda 2. Fans prepared for a competition, But it looks like the contest has been canceled.
Durk forfeits
It’s undeniable, Durk is one of the most popular rappers of this generation. He along with Lil Baby took the spot for No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 last year with their album The Voice of The Heroes. He followed that up with another hit and the third single on 7220, ‘Broadway Girls‘. The collaboration with country star Morgan Wallace debuted at No.1 on the R&B/Hiphop songs chart in December. Clearly, the ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’ artist is on a roll.
It’s because of that success the announcement of an album delay is such a surprise. Earlier in the week (Feb. 21) Durk posted the 7220 cover art to his Instagram. In the caption of the photo, he clarifies the new drop date.
“7220 the album dropping 3/11” he typed. Along with the new date, Durkio dropped a new single called ‘Ahhh ha’. The song is currently available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, and other streaming platforms.
“Ahhh ha out right now go run it up {link in bio}”
It’s possible that Durk got intimidated by Kanye’s massive streaming numbers. The 29-year-old pointed out in his own initial tweet that his drop date was the same as Ye’s.
“My album drop the same day as YE 2/22/22” he typed. With Donda going No.1 on the Billboard 200 and earning West 23 entries on the Hot 100, it’s understandable if Durk backed out at the last second. Luckily, the matchup appeared to be all in good fun as the two Chicago natives have collaborated before. The Englewood rapper made an appearance on Donda with the track ‘Jonah’.
Youngboy called out
The aforementioned ‘Ahhh ha’ serves as a diss to Baton Rouge rapper NBA Youngboy. The two previously got in a social media subbing war back in January. It began with Lil Top posting a picture of himself laying next to a violent message. “You n——- gone die” was spelled out in money.

Another photo was posted with hundred dollar bills spelling out “stay safe”. A few days later, Durk posted a photo to his Instagram in response. “Hurry y’all b—— a— up” spelled out in cash, similarly to his Louisiana rival.

Now just a month later, Durk is ready to continue the feud. The heavy-hitting beat on ‘Ahhh ha’ is accompanied by equally forceful lyrics.
“N—— Acting Like They Really Like That
Since My Brodie Died (Von)
Just Got Out The Feds
You Bring Up Murders With Your Police A—”
This is referring to Youngboy, who has been allegedly dissing King Von since his death in November. The ‘Carter Son’ rapper recently completed a prison stint in October last year.
“I Told Von To Leave That B—- Alone
She Post On OnlyFans”
Suddenly Jania Meshell becomes the subject. She gave birth to NBA’s son Kacey in February 2019. King Von and the Instagram star were rumored to have a short fling that fueled the tensions between him and NBA Youngboy.
The song has yet to garner a response. However, it’s likely these two aren’t finished coming to blows just yet. In the meantime, the drop of Donda 2 hasn’t been rescheduled. If you’re wondering why you can’t find it on Spotify or Apple Music, the album is exclusive to fans that own a Yeezy Stem Player. It seems fans of both Ye and Durk will have to wait a little longer to see who comes out on top.
