Lil Mama The Fashion Killer!

So it seems kind of odd, at least to me, that I’m all the way here for Lil’ Mama and what she is delivering as part of her re-entry into the game. I didn’t even know ‘sausage’ was a thing, but Lil’ Mama got a hold of perfect timing and put out a song and a video fast enough that ‘sausage’ is still a thing, and people have been paying attention to it.

First thing I notice of course, is the fashion. Lil’ Mama deliberately goes for different genre’s and eras concerning her fits in the video, and they all seem tailored to work cohesively. The song is some what an ode to Hip-Hop and R&B, and she follows suits with the fits she picks.

First up, the varsity jacket with the body suit. Sporty sexy, which seems to fit Lil’ Mama’s personality and approach. And, it’s a teenage mutant ninja turtle jacket, talk about nostalgia. All us 80’s babies are familiar and a little softened by our childhood favorites. Either way, body suits and varsity jackets for the win this summer. The bomber’s are like windbreakers, perfect for covering up a bit of our sexy when the chill hits.

Then comes the monochrome red. Hello, when is this not ever super chic? Monochrome outfits are so sophisticated, and bold, and her all gold jewelry to accessorize it is a classic gaudy match. She executes this fit with an on-trend fedora, crop-bralette top, and a vest. Yes to the vests. It’s so mature without being old, it comes off as experienced. I wasn’t an all the way believer for the vests, but after seeing it executed time and time again, it is a stand-out piece. Every women should own at least one.

I’m also all the way here for the Mary J. Blidge look. The head scarf, oversized sunglasses, matching dark lipstick. This is a perfect morning after look, when you don’t want anyone to know, it’s that kind of morning after. I’m taking tips and writing notes, because I definitely need to execute this look on days I just rather do nothing with myself.

Leggings, funky oversized sweaters and sneakers. This is a no brainer for us girls. I don’t think there’s anything more comfortable.

She did the tie-dye y’all, in a matching set….and I liked it. I’m not sure if Lil’ Mama has any west-indian descent, but this definitely has an island vibe to it. With her wet short cut, and on-point dutty wine, I wouldn’t be mad if I seen this look in the streets this summer. You know in those basement parties, we need to be able to move and stay cool, this look lets you do all that, and has a lot of spunk. I’m with it.

The sport look with the bucket hat, she literally covered so many of the major trends right now, and tailored them for her and this song. It’s like the ultimate ode dress-up. Clap for her y’all. I love the crown crop top and drop-crotch pants, with the ‘fear the crown’ tagline.

Last, the Vogue look. This is totally impractical, but who cares right? It’s dress-up! No lie, I’ve always wanted to wear one of these cage pieces, but I haven’t made it yet. Just wait, I’ll be wearing one with no reason to actually have it on, but to snap a few pictures. Lol. She also did it with the high-contrast with the white and black, making the look standout and be a winner. Even with the cat mask. Who knew Lil’ Mama even had all this in her? Truth be told, I didn’t, but i’m here for it. I know how to give fashion props when they’re due.

The most fashionable thing I thought she did though was her Thank you list at the end of the video. I’m sure she has faced a lot of adversity ever since her hop on stage moment, and attempts to get back in the game and find a lane. We can all relate to determination, but thank fullness and appreciation is something we could all probably use more of.
