With 52 million monthly listeners, Lil Nas X now passes DaBaby as the most popular male rapper on Spotify. According to the Georgia rapper, this is the most monthly listener he’s ever had. Nas X remarked in a joyful tweet, “Wow, this is insane. This is the most I’ve ever had in my career. Thank u to everybody listening.”.
This comes at a time when Lil Nas has two tracks on Spotify that are doing quite well. Following the release of “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” he recently released “INDUSTRY BABY,” a collaboration with Jack Harlow. Given who he surpassed to become the most popular male rapper on Spotify, the statistic likely meant considerably more to Lil Nas X.
DaBaby has been under fire for the past few weeks from fans who were offended by his homophobic remarks at Rolling Loud. T.I. mentioned Lil Nas X in an attempt to defend DaBaby last month, connecting Baby’s statements to Nas X’s music videos and performances. Tip then wrote on Instagram, “If Lil Nas X can kick his shit in peace… so should DaBaby.”
Lil Nas X tweeted shortly after, “I’m starting to think you niggas gay too cuz yall keep on my dick. Some of y’all not even mad that I’m gay, some of y’all mad that I’m gay and still succeeding,”. Much of Lil Nas’ current musical era has been highly influenced by his sexuality. In this era, Lil Nas has been outspokenly gay in his performances, music videos, and other media. He hasn’t said anything directly yet about DaBaby’s remarks, but this latest news has to feel like a triumph.
