Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ Is the Highest Rated Song in RIAA History

Lil Nas is kicking the new year off with a great celebration. His version of ‘Old Town Road’ featuring Billy Ray Cyrus has become the highest certified song in the history of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song reached 14-times platinum status in the United States, accumulating about 14 million sales in equivalent song units. One song unit according the the RIAA is a single digital song sale or 150 on-demand audio and/or music streams.

To announce this to his fans, Lil Nas took to Instagram. He wrote, “”OLD TOWN ROAD IS OFFICIALLY 14 TIMES PLATINUM! MOST PLATINUMS FOR ANY SONG EVER! LETS GOOO!” Celebrity SZA also commented by saying, “ “BRUH !!! Lmao what’s higher than diamond !????? I can’t even think of a gem JUST GIVE HIM THE RADIO.”

Billy Ray Cyrus took to his Twitter to announce the news. He wrote, “Incredible. I’m speechless. #OTR is now 14x platinum and the most certified song in music history.” Since the song essentially revived his career, he should be really proud of this achievement.
