It’s rare to be able to listen to two people who are both considered the G.O.A.T. in the same profession sit down and talk about the culture they helped build. All the old videos of Tupac and Biggie freestyling and talking together have become immortalized in the Hip Hop world. Today, two of this generation’s greatest rappers gave fans something similar during this time of struggle. For his third podcast episode on Young Money Radio, Lil Wayne decided to have his friend, and peer, Eminem to talk on his show.
Their collaborations in the past, like “No Love”, “Drop the World”, and their features on “Forever”, have seen massive success, but recorded interactions between the two seem to be scarce. When they sat down today, they started by catching up with each other in quarantine and then moved onto the state of rap music and what they’ve both got in store.
One of the most important parts of the conversation was when Lil Wayne asked Eminem where he is drawing his inspiration to write from now. He answered by saying it’s not as easy to get external inspiration as it used to be and a lot of it comes from expanding and learning more about his creative flow. This eventually lead to them talking about why they do what they do, and Lil Wayne could not have had a more genius response. “We [rap] to prove that we’re not insane,” said the long time veteran. This is probably very accurate as both seem to sometimes write with an introspective voice, working through their own problems during the process of making their music.
It was interesting to see the human side of two massive stars And is definitely worth the listen. Let’s hope this brings new collaboration between Lil Wayne and Eminem.
