Master P really has “No Limit” when it comes to his achievements
This past weekend, P was one of 400 graduates and six valedictorians graduating from Pennsylvania HBCU, Lincoln University. P, among others, received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters.
“I guess I got to change my name to, Dr. P. Miller”
Despite his other accomplishments, this is particularly meaningful for P. However, Dr. P is not the only prominent African America to be bestowed an honorary doctorate from Lincoln University this past weekend. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, and Jay-Z’s mother, Gloria Carter, all received the same doctorate as Miller.
While not as prominent in the recent music scene, Master P is unmistakably one of the biggest achievers in Hip-hop. He is a rapper, label founder, producer, executive producer, director, mogul, philanthropist, general entrepreneur, restauranteur, actor, and even former NBA player, but now he can add doctor to that list. Additionally, he and his label, No Limit Records, are a large factor of the Southern Hip-Hop scene receiving early attention. Songs like ‘Make ‘Em Say Ugh’ are just the tip of his iceberg of accomplishments, there’s too many to count.
P certainly doesn’t keep the glory to himself, though. In addition to putting on countless rappers, he executive produced the show that his daughter stars in and his son who sold 10 million records. Being the giver that he is, P has shifted his dreams from owning an NBA team to wanting to own an HBCU. He points out that more women graduate from HBCU’s than any other institution and he wants to perpetuate that. His goal to inspire other African American leaders and business owners to do the same with their influence. In the video in which he announced this, he insists that “We need to make sure that our kids are educated the way that other cultures are educated.”
As Master P constantly elevates the culture over time, its truly amazing to see how wholesome his interests continue to become.
