What Is BET

The BET awards was established in 2001, in order to celebrate Black artists worldwide! BET shows how many Black entertainers have touched and impacted lives through their career and messages they send. The award show this year will be held on June 28th at 8PM. For the first time, Lizzo among many different successful black artists has been nominated for best female pop and hip hop artist, in addition to  best female hip-hop artist, making history! It’s no secret that her style in music is a collaborative mix of hip-hop and pop. Her music and messages make a difference for many, so it really is not all that surprising she is up for two amazing awards!

Lizzo Rewriting Music History

Lizzo has always been an empowering woman through her music and advocacy work. Personally, I have met Lizzo and she was one of the kindest souls I met. With her bubbly personality and her confidence, there was no doubt that she is more than on her way to making history. Some of her amazing hits are “Truth Hurts”, “Good As Hell”, and “Juice”! Lizzo kills it on and off the stage! Her biggest hits along with her albums were able to touch so many that she has been nominated for the two BET awards. She has a good chance of winning due to her impactful voice put into her music.

The Nominees

For best R&B/pop artist, she is up against 5 different empowering artists. The other nominees are Beyoncé (Queen B), H.E.R, Jhene Aiko, Kehlani, and Summer Walker! For best hip hop artist, Lizzo is running against 5 different artists from the R&B/pop nominees. The five other nominees for best hip hop artists are Cardi B, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Saweetie, and Megan Thee Stallion. We are all up for Lizzo getting the award(s) she deserves! Although the competition is fierce, many of us have faith in Lizzo! 

Even if Lizzo doesn’t win both, Lizzo has still made history in being nominated for these two categories. Fans show their love through nominations and following her inspiration, making her an idol to many! So, who are you guys voting for this year for the BET awards?
