Lollapalooza Canceled DaBaby's Set following Homophobic Comments

In response to the Charlotte rapper’s recent homophobic remarks, Lollapalooza canceled DaBaby’s set on Sunday. The prolific Chicago Music festival stated on Twitter that it was founded on “diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” and that DaBaby’s performance was canceled “with that in mind”. In place of DaBaby, Young Thug performed on the Budlight Stage at 9 pm, while G-Herbo performed on the T-mobile stage at 4 pm.

DaBaby’s removal from Lollapalooza comes after the rapper made homophobic remarks to the crowd at Rolling Loud Miami last weekend. “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of the deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he said. “Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up!”. He also made derogatory remarks about women. DaBaby defended his comments later on Instagram. “I wasn’t going on a rant. That’s a call to action. That’s what that’s called, cause I’m a live performer,” he said. “I’m the best live performer.”

After the incident, several artists spoke out, including Dua Lipa, who collaborated with DaBaby on their remix “Levitating”. Madonna and Demi Lovato both took to Instagram to condemn DaBaby’s remarks. Elton John also weighed in on the topic, claiming that the rapper was spreading “HIV misinformation”. “This fuels stigma and discrimination and is the opposite of what our world needs to fight the AIDS epidemic,” he tweeted.

Governors’s Ball has also cancelled DaBaby’s upcoming performance

Following yesterday’s news that Lollapalooza canceled DaBaby’s performance, he has also been removed from the Governors Ball festival’s lineup. “Founders Entertainment does not and will not tolerate hate or discrimination of any kind,” the festival tweeted. Governors Ball will name a replacement in the weeks leading up to the September festival.
