Mike Tyson is known as the greatest boxer alive. Even at 55, why would any relatively new boxer want to step in the ring with him? He’d have to be arrogant, attention-seeking, and perhaps ignorant to the consequences of his decisions.
So anyway, a rumor began to circulate that Jake Paul would be standing opposite Mike Tyson in the ring at some point in the near future.
Almost as rapidly, Tyson revealed the rumor to be just that. And all the news stations that instantly reported on it now look a little bit silly.
Where did this rumor come from?
Early yesterday morning, The Sun published an article about an alleged fight between Tyson and Paul. The article claimed that the two had “struck a verbal deal” and were in “advanced talks.” This information came from an unidentified source who, supposedly, claims to be a business associate of Tyson’s. Nearly all of the information in the article came from this source.
To be fair, it is not that hard to believe this rumor. Tyson and Paul and known to be friendly. Furthermore, Jake Paul is looking to take his boxer career to the next level. After recently competing in his first professional boxing matches, a fight against the legendary Mike Tyson would undoubtedly cause his reputation to skyrocket, regardless of the outcome.
It’s a knockout!
Unfortunately for The Sun, the rumor of this alleged fight was put to rest faster than Jake Paul, were he to actually fight Tyson.
This is new to me. I saw Jake in St. Barths and he never mentioned it. https://t.co/eL01HDMdmr
In a simple, but effective Twitter Takedown, Tyson explains that the fight was “new to him.” This means that the fight isn’t going to happen, at least any time soon. The people doing the fighting should probably not be the last ones to hear about the fight.
But The Sun was quick to double-down on their claims. They swiftly updated the article after 7 hours to include Tyson’s quote, and followed it up with, “When asked previously if he would face either Paul brother – Jake or Logan – Tyson suggested that the money would be too good to resist.”
Mike Tyson isn’t only a better boxer
It turns out Tyson and Paul have more similarities than boxing. Both also dabble in creating music.
It turns out that Tyson has actually written a rap dis as part of a promotion for the fight between Chris Brown and Soulja Boy. Now we know that Tyson would destroy Paul in a boxing match, but check out his piece below and tell us who would write the better diss track (still gotta be Tyson):
