The 20th Million Man March
Thousands upon thousands attended The 20th Million Man March, becoming a part of history, celebrating it’s twenty year Anniversary, this past Saturday (October 10th). Just about every street in Washington D.C., was filled with black men and women, protesters. Every voice, lifted with purpose, addressed ongoing, unlawful police behaviors, and lack of justice for blacks. Oh, it was so intense! Even Trayvon Martin‘s mother, Sybrina Fulton, spoke words of encouragement.
Amongst the crowd, crammed on the National Mall, stood influential black public figures J. Cole, Russell Simmons, Snoop Dogg, P. Diddy, Dave Chappelle, TY Dolla$ign, Young Jeezy and many more; also, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith donated $150,000 to Million Man March host, Minister Louis Farrakhan earlier this month. Seeing the black community come together this way is majestic; every action is a step toward ending the racial inequality, that America has created and seems not to want to do away with. This makes me proud.
Protesters chanted empowering quotes, and recited Lyrics from Kendrick Lamar’s song ‘Alright’.
“But, if God got us, then we gone be Alright.”
“Demonstrators waved flags, carried banners, chanted, and sang. Participants described a peaceful atmosphere with the air of a family reunion, despite the heavy presence of security barricades.”
“Some of the older protesters said they had attended the original Million Man March on October 16, 1995 and now brought their families to share the experience.” –RT
I believe, after watching all the footage, that every single being who experienced this years March will begin making a difference!! Of course, this peaceful coming together, of such a large congregation of blacks, has not gone overly viral, or been televised; however, this was an extremely sensational event! After over 500 years, it baffles me that we STILL have to march and fight for black rights. But, seeing all the faith, pride and dignity in the hearts of my brothers and sisters, fills me with joy. As I indulged in every minute, of every video I could find, of the march, chill bumps covered my body, tears filled my eyes, and my heart exuded an indescribable feeling of love.
My goodness… and just to be apart of something so remarkable. Each speaker eloquently spoke out against, still very apparent, racial issues, all the while remaining peaceful. So much wisdom was laid upon the ears of those in attendance; not one ear was turned deaf to it, either. And, In the heart of every individual was a burning fire. One that could not be put out, even by the ways of this wicked world and decades of being treated unjustly. The next Million Man March has surely been placed on my bucket list. How can we expect to see and feel a difference without making one?
