Moneybagg Yo has joined the list of artists who are no longer interested in Grammy games. He took to Twitter to say “I used to want a Grammy so bad til I realized it ain’t nun but a trophy,” tweeted the rapper. “That don’t determine who u is or what u done accomplished.” He retweeted a fan saying he should have won a Grammy for “Said Sum”. People began to accuse the multi-platinum rapper of being salty because he wasn’t nominated. He then tweeted “Ian never f*cked up bout nun lol.” He went on to say “I remember when people could voice they opinion but now the whole world tender as hell bout everything [crying laughing emoji] why y’all mad?”
Despite controversy, winning a Grammy is one of if not the most prestigious accolade in music. The Grammys have been criticized for submission and voting processeswhich some artist take as blatant disrespect for artistry. The Weekend announced he is boycotting the event saying he will no longer let his label submit on his behalf. Beyoncé also isn’t for the Grammysas she opted out performing (Best Rap Song) “Savage Remix” at the 63rd ceremony. This is the 3rd year the person with the most nominees opted not to perform. Rowdy Ricchalso spoke out about the process being outdated and lacking in transparency.Currently, anonymous expert committees have the final say on Grammy nominations after reviewing submissions from the thousands of voting members who make up the Recording Academy.
