‘MTV Cribs’ is BACK!

A blast from the past

Back in MTV’s heyday, they took on just about everything, but their show, ‘MTV Cribs’, is immortalized as one of their all time favorites.  10 years after it ended in 2011, ‘MTV Cribs’ is back yo!

50 Cent shows off his crib

The first episode will air on August 11th this year.   The celebrity list is quite vast but there’s of course plenty of interesting cribs to come from them.  A few include JoJo Siwa, Martha Stewart, Snooki, and Rick Ross, who we can guarantee will have one of the craziest cribs.

We also gotta give a shout out to celebrities and their cribs that made for some great past episodes.  There’s Mariah Carey, Simon Cowell, Hugh Hefner (of course), 50 Cent, Missy Elliot, among countless others in the show’s 113 episodes.  Arguably the best one came from Redman.  The hilarious but ferociously talented MC shows off his extremely average Staten Island spot.  With clothes on the ground and average furniture, Redman’s episode is the wholesome antithesis of the show, flexing how happy he is in as normal a crib as possible.

‘MTV Cribs’ coming back is bigger than just a show returning.  ‘Cribs’ helped establish the celebrity culture we have today, for better or for worse.  The concept of publicly showing off everything you’ve got is a foundational basis for our overwhelming output of the same content on social media.  ‘Cribs’ also served as a platform for putting on all sorts of different brands, something we can expect a lot of in the new season.

Do you think ‘MTV Cribs’ will fare well in a culture that it helped create, despite being long absent?  Either way, we’re sure that you’ll be watching it; who wont?
