At the MTV VMA awards, Lil Nas X came dressed to impress. His lavender Versace ensemble was all the talk with one exception: MTV VMA interviewer, Jamila Mustafa.
Mustafa didn’t have much to say regarding Nas X’s attire. And when Lil Nas began his commentary on his outfit and how good he looked in it, the interviewer suggested they move the conversation along.
Things Got Heated
To be fair, the interviewer didn’t say one way or the other whether she was digging Lil Nas X’s look. In fact, these were her word’s “Listen, I’m not gonna say I’m hating on the ‘fit, but let’s move on, OK?” However, despite whatever intentions she might have had, fans weren’t pleased with her response. And, needless to say, they went in. According to teenVOGUE, one fan repackaged the interviewer’s words to make a point.
“Listen, I’m not gonna say I’m hating on the interviewer but let’s make this clear… @LilNasX is so important, and when you approach him, you better realize that.”
Another fan went on to bring attention to the interviewer’s fashion choices for the evening. The comment was clear-cut and scathing.
“I know that interviewer did not just say that about Lil Nas X’s outfit…. Girl, what the hell is YOU wearing ???,
Lil Nas X took it all in stride.
Nas X didn’t let the interviewer dim his shine. After the comment, X kept it light and classy. In fact, he even shared a few laughs with the interviewer. No one is quite sure what she meant by her remarks. So to say that she was rude, disrespectful, or hating on X’s attire is pure speculation and a matter of perception.
Despite what went down, we learned a lot here–Lil Nas X has die-hard fans that have his back no matter what. The only thing that could match the shine of his ensemble was his win. Because X took home an MTV VMA for Video of the Year.
