With twelve studio albums, five compilations, and 78 singles, the ‘Illmatic’ rapper, Nas, is getting ready to drop another project with beat-maker, Hit-Boy.
Yesterday, the all-time rapper posted a video on instagram introducing the collaboration with Hit-Boy and giving a possible date for the project’s release. Although Nas is regarded as one the greatest lyricists ever, he has a long standing reputation of being the worst beat selector in the game. His last album, ‘Nasir’, went to the top five on Billboard, but many believe the production was rushed and added to the fact that Nas doesn’t pick the right instrumentals to lay his bars over. He spoke to this on the ‘Nasir’ song “Simple Things” as he raps, ““Never sold a record for a beat… It’s my verses they purchase, Without production, I’m worthless, But I’m more than the surface.”
Even though he has shown that he is above this sort of criticism, Nas still has a response to those that question his choices. That response is a collaboration with the Roc Nation producer, Hit-Boy. The California born beat-maker is one of hip hop’s most sought after producer as he did Jay-Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ project and many other massive projects.
Nas and Hit-Boy announced their partnership back in April, and now seem to be gearing up to make 2020 even wilder. The video that he posted on instagram yesterday featured a date, August 21st, so we may be getting some exciting music in the near future.
