Nas Opens Masterclass on The Art of Storytelling

MasterClass teamed up with Nas to create a class on the art of storytelling. Masterclass is an online educational platform that allows users to learn skills and trades from big names in their respective fields. A short commercial also followed the announcement to reveal more details of the collaboration.

The press release from MasterClass states:

“Nas shares his philosophy as a lyricist, breaking down how he used his life experiences and emotions to create incredibly raw yet cinematic lyrics with a message to inspire MasterClass members to do the same”

MasterClass x ‘Big Nas’

The news came with the new Nas and Hit-Boy’s music video ‘Big Nas.’ It’s also an original song from MasterClass and part of Nas’s class preview. The video features a solo actor dancing around various parts of NYC.

Nas explained, “I wanted to give it 100 percent, so the video concept was, since King’s Disease 2 is already out and MasterClass is something totally separate, I wanted it to feel like its own thing.”

Nas & Hit-Boy

On top, Nas and Hit-Boy have talked with Complex about MasterClass and ‘King’s Disease’ albums.

Nas described MasterClass as “a great thing for people to get the inside scoop on what’s going on.”  He then added, “I think the whole thing is a great concept.”

“A lot of fans that respect what we did on the two albums that we worked on,” Hit-Boy added. “For them to get some type of real inside scoop as to how we actually come up with, I think that’s great information.”

Artists also explained their creative approach to ‘King’s Disease. “Every song we make, without even consciously doing it, we’re trying to make it better than the last,” Hit-Boy said. “It’s just already embedded in us to do that. I feel like as long as we keep taking that approach, it’s going to get crazier and crazier, and that’s what happened.”

“You got to keep your head in the light, and that’s what I’m doing,” Nas shared. “No matter what, I’m going to stay in the light.”
