In honor of the leagues 75th anniversary, Nike has teamed with the NBA to unveil new “Classic Edition uniforms”. The jersey will pay tribute to three of the original NBA franchises: the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors. The NBA was formed when the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League combined on Aug. 3, 1949.
Let’s take a look at each team’s new jerseys:
Boston Celtics
The Celtics’ uniforms are almost identical to those worn by the team in 1946. The “Celtics” typeface and number are also green, while the designs throughout the jersey have a gleaming sheen. A white four-leaf clover is also included on the shorts, which is set against a gleaming green background.
New York Knicks
The Knicks’ jerseys include the traditional words “New York” on the front, together with dark blue numbers. The original 1946 jersey also featured larger-scale numbers, which are replicated in the 2021-22 edition. Here’s a deeper look at the Classic Edition threads for the Knicks!
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors’ jerseys feature a blue jersey with blue shorts, yellow and red trim, and red and white numbers that will be used throughout the 2021-22 NBA season. The Philadelphia Warriors were the original name of the Golden State Warriors. These are quite close to the uniforms worn by the team during the 1961-62 NBA season. The most noticeable change was the replacement of the original “PHILA” inscription on the front of the jersey with “Warriors.”
The 2021-22 season will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 19, and as part of its celebrations, the NBA will unveil a list of its 75 greatest players.
